Nintendo Wii Console Review

Recognized for its sleek design and unique controller, the Nintedo Wii marks Nintendo’s return to power in the home console market. One of the most attractive aspects of this system (other than its minute size) is its price tag. While affordability seems to be a lost concept among next-generation consoles, the Wii clocks in at a reasonable $280.

The Most innovative part of the new Nintendo is the Wiimote controller. The controller is motion sensitive, allowing users to play games a whole new way and giving players a more “in game” feel. While some games manage to do this in a surprisingly fluid way, other games feel awkward and fail to registers some motions. The new controllers will give future game designers more creative freedom and there is hope that later games for the Wii will make better use of its functionalities. Of course, the new controller does not come without problems. There have been numerous reports of wayward controllers refusing to stay in gamers’ hands and breaking television screens. As far as graphics go, the Wii falls short. The graphics of the Wii are not at all next-gen, and are in fact the exact same as those of the Gamecube.

For the casual gamer the Wii is a good fit–the low price tag makes casual gaming affordable and the controller lets casual gamers compete with full time gamers. The virtual arcade allows for the play of original Nintendo games, which has great nostalgic value. The Wii is fun to fool around with, but more serious gamers may want to move up to the graphic powerhouses by grabbing a Sony playstation 3 or an Xbox 360. The limited selection of games may leave Wii users feeling left out. Still, the Wii is innovative, fun to play, and shows hope for the future.

How to Customize Your Sony PSP with Free Themes

It would be nice to customize your Sony PSP screen just as you would a Windows desktop, wouldn’t it? Well, actually you can, if you’re willing to use an unlicensed homebrew application on your PSP. I know, you have probably heard of some homebrew apps that “brick” the PSP. Believe me, those are not just scary stories, they have actually happened to some unfortunate and inexperienced users. However, the free application you can use to load themes on your PSP is apparently safe, although it is always good to exercise great caution when dealing with unlicensed releases.

The free application I am talking about is called ThemePSP v1.2, which should only be used on a PSP running on 1.5 firmware. If you do not know your PSP’s firmware version or, indeed, what “firmware” even means, then I do not recommend using this application, since your portable player could very well end up a brick. But if you feel comfortable enough to use it, then ThemePSP v1.2 can be used to flash theme packs onto your PSP screen and thus give it new custom backgrounds, font styles, colors, and more.

If you are interested in downloading a copy of this free app for your PSP, I suggest you head over to the QJ.Net Forums, the discussion board for the Quick Jump Network. You may have to register for the forum to access some features, but the registration is free and it only takes a couple of minutes to complete. To find the application, go to the subforum PSP Homebrew Discussion and look for the ThemePSP thread.

The same thread is where you can find many user-submitted theme packs you can download for free to your PSP. The files are not actually on the forum pages. Instead, the thread contains a long list of links to available PSP theme pack files. Not all of these links may be working, and the variety is limited to what others have created and uploaded. But there are still a number of interesting free downloads, especially for those who would like PSP themes centered on games (Legend of Zelda, Mortal Kombat), TV shows (The Simpsons, Prison Break), movies (The Matrix, Spiderman), and hard rock bands (Metallica, Linkin Park). There is also a theme creator available for people who would like to come up with their own PSP themes.

By the way, there is a website called ThemePSP.com that does not seem to have anything to do with the ThemePSP v1.2 mod. The ThemePSP.com is simply a website that offers free downloads of PSP wallpapers in a variety of categories. That is simple and safe enough for anyone to do. Even though ThemePSP v1.2 seems harmless, it does make some modifications to your PSP system. If you are nervous about using it, you can just download a free wallpaper for your PSP.

Using HDTV Reviews to Find the Perfect Set

The new world of high definition TV is exciting and dynamic- never before have we had access to such amazing home entertainment gear, and never before have the options available to us expanded and changed so quickly over the course of a year. If you bought a cutting-edge HDTV five years ago, chances are good that you’re lusting over the latest “best” set right now. But finding the best HDTV these days is a little more complicated than it was five years ago, because of the expansion of the industry and the introduction of new technologies. Luckily, the internet offers a seemingly bottomless well of information and opinions on the new gear.

But this brings up another problem: how do you sort through all the different opinions, sales pitches, guides and reviews to come up with the one set that’s right for you? Reading the manufacturer’s data is one step, but it only takes you so far. The most important thing to know is how it will actually function in your home, not how many pixels are in the screen, or even what level of contrast it can display. For the real “dirt”, you need to spend time reading the reports of real people who have tried the set first-hand. Some of them will just verify what you already know, but others will steer you away from a big mistake. Here’s a list of some important topics to look for in HDTV reviews:

Customer service.

With HDTV or any other new technology, no matter how good the quality of the set is, there’s always a chance of problems. The happiest customers are not necessarily the ones with reliable TV sets, but are also the ones who bought from a reliable company.

User-friendliness and simplicity.

Some HDTV sets look great as soon as you plug them in, and others need plenty of tuning and tweaking to get the picture just right. Which kind you choose should depend on the type of person you are: are you a performance-oriented tuner and tweaker, or just a watcher?

Known issues.

There’s a handful of problems that are fairly common in modern HDTV sets, and even the big manufacturers can’t seem to make them all go away. These include issues like banding, burn-in, ghosting, and motion blur. The manufacturers won’t reveal these problems on their websites, but customer reviewers will.

The viewing environment.

Do you want to watch sports at night and soap operas by day? Is your HDTV going to go in a basement theater? Are you looking for a small set for your sailboat? If you look long enough, you are bound to find a review from someone who has the exact same set of requirements as you. See what kind of HDTV they chose, and how well it works for them.

Reviews are part of the whole research process when you’re buying a new HDTV. Use them wisely, ask questions if possible, try to be clear about your wants and needs, and you should be able to find a set that fills the bill perfectly. A great way to get started down this path is to visit a simple HDTV review index, to get a feel for what’s out there before you start making decisions.

Sony Ericsson W980i Review - Receive and Transmit Music

The Sony Ericsson W980i is another great phone in the Walkman series. It includes a built-in FM transmitter that allows the W980i to take whatever is playing on the device and send it to other devices using the built in radio receiver. That means you can tune into your mobile phone from a car stereo, and with the 8000 song capacity, that can make for a nice change of pace when you’re driving, especially if you have to travel any distance.

With the Sony Ericsson W980i you have access to over five million tracks. Though the storage capacity is only for 8,000, that gives you an opportunity to change tunes when you tire of what you have store on your music phone. You can also choose to listen to whatever is on the FM receiver such as sports, weather, news, and anything else that appeals to you. You can even choose to switch back and forth between the radio and the music player in order to have a wider selection of music from which to choose.

The Sony Ericsson W980i also has a 3.2 megapixel camera with 3x zoom and unlike other phones in the Walkman series, the W980i has a flash. No information was available on the type of flash that the camera uses, but the fact that there is one available puts this phone higher in desirability than others in the same class. Of course, for those that are more interested in the music capabilities of the phone, even that may not be of great importance to you at all. Since all of the phones in the Walkman series (W) were built primarily as music phones, SE didn’t see a reason to add high quality cameras.

As the Walkman series becomes more popular, you can see more features going into the phones than there is now. Of course, there are currently more features than one would have thought a few years ago-when mobile phones first entered the market, who thought we would be playing music or taking pictures with them? Sony Ericsson has come a long way with their phones, and with Sony behind it, there are more choices in the music end of it.

As we progress, you will find more phones and higher capabilit8ies in each phone. For now look at a Sony Ericsson W980i review to see what people are saying and what other features they may seek other than a music phone with a high quality camera as well. Find some mobile phone deals, and you will be in a better position to check the W980i and see the high level of performance it provides and make sure all of the features are working properly. Choosing the W980i as your next mobile phone will provide you with hours of musical pleasure and quality talk time as well. If you want the best in a music phone, you want to give the W980i some quality time to strut its stuff.

The Phone is also equipped with standard features like a Java virtual machine which supports MIDP 2.0, an fm stereo with RDS, a full fledged media player on the lines of Walkman players. One of the new features in this phone is inclusion of motion sensor which changes the UI of camera phone from portrait to landscape and vice versa when the display is flipped.

For connectivity, the phone comes equipped with Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, GPRS, 3G connectivity and further 3.5G HSDPA connectivity.
